In the retina, localizes to the Mueller cell radial processes in the inner nuclear layer and in apical processes sclerad to the external limiting membrane. Localizes to the subapical region, adjacent to the adherens junction of photoreceptors. Isoform 3 which is secreted is found in the cytoplasmic area of undifferentiated keratinocytes and associates with the plasma membrane at the site of cell-cell contacts and focal adhesion upon keratinocytes differentiation.
